There has always been a need for a mosque in the south Denver area to serve the large Muslim community of both families and professionals working in the DTC area. In Ramadan of 2007, a group of Muslims announced their desire to start such a project. On March 6, 2008, the organization was registered with IRS and we were granted the 501 C3 non-profit status. The registered name is South Denver Islamic Center (SDIC). The board was formed and a bank account was created to start collecting funds for the mosque. The search for the rental place for the Masjid was initiated. The desire was to stay close to I-25. It was protracted search process that culminated in September 2009 in finding the Lone Tree Commons property. The contract was signed, possession was taken, and the first prayer was offered on the 27th of Ramadan 2009.
